Car Interior Cleaning: When It's Time and What's Included
A car interior gets dirty gradually, so owners notice the mess last. Here are the signs that it's time for interior cleaning, and what the team does for that money.

A car absorbs the life of its owner. Coffee on the way to work, kids in the back seat, a dog, a trip to the beach in Batumi. A little every day, and after a year the interior needs cleaning: it looks and smells nothing like it did when you bought it. The owner barely notices this, but passengers do.
5 signs the interior needs cleaning
1. The smell doesn’t go away after airing out. Spilled milk, cigarettes, pets. The smell sits in the seat fabric and the floor carpet, and an air freshener only masks it.
2. Stains and streaks on the seats. Especially on light fabric. If you tried to scrub a stain yourself, there is usually a ring around it.
3. The ceiling has darkened. Most often above the driver and by the doors, where hands touch it. In cars where people smoked, the whole ceiling turns yellow.
4. The plastic is sticky or shiny. That’s hand grease from the steering wheel, gear lever and door handles.
5. You’re planning to sell the car. A clean interior with no smell noticeably affects a buyer’s impression. That’s why interior cleaning is often ordered together with body polishing, which makes it 20% cheaper.
What’s included: seats, ceiling and floor cleaning
Detailing Standart has two packages.
“Standard” covers the whole interior:
- floor;
- ceiling;
- seats;
- door panels;
- dashboard.
“Detailing” includes all of the above, plus the trunk, three-phase body wash and separate wheel cleaning. You get a car that’s clean both outside and inside in one visit.
Fabric, leather, Alcantara: each needs its own approach
Each surface gets its own product. A product that cleans carpet can ruin the leather on the steering wheel.
Fabric absorbs everything that gets spilled on it, so the dirt sits not on the surface but in the foam under it. It’s washed deeply, and the water is pulled back out right away.
Leather isn’t washed but cleaned with a gentle product. Dirt collects here in folds and pores, especially on the driver’s seat and steering wheel.
Alcantara doesn’t like excess water or stiff brushes: the pile gets crushed and shiny. It’s cleaned carefully, almost dry.
Plastic and ceiling also differ. On the dashboard it’s hand grease, on the ceiling it’s dust and nicotine. The ceiling must not be soaked, or the headliner can come loose.
Why we remove the seats
A vacuum doesn’t reach what’s under the seats and in the seat rails: sand, crumbs, coins, dried drink stains. That’s often where the smell comes from, the one that doesn’t go away after a regular clean.
With the seats removed, the floor is cleaned completely, and the seats are treated on all sides. The procedure is safe.
How the interior cleaning works
We treat the seats and floor in several stages, so they need full access. The seats are removed. On some models, the battery is disconnected first to avoid onboard computer errors.
Then we work through the zones: ceiling, dashboard, door panels, seats, floor. Each surface is cleaned with its own product. The interior is dried before handover.
Clients describe the result in different ways. One wrote that his car was only this clean when it came from the dealer.
How to remove smell from the interior
An air freshener doesn’t remove the smell, it only covers it. The smell itself sits in the seat fabric, in the carpet and under the seats, where what has been dropped or spilled accumulates over the years. That’s why interior cleaning with the seats removed also gets rid of it: one client got rid of a smell that came from under the seats this way.
If the smell is deeply ingrained, for example after smoking in the car, ozone treatment can be done after the cleaning. We quote its price after an inspection, and it’s listed in the calculator on the prices page.
How much interior cleaning costs
| Car class | “Standard” |
|---|---|
| Mini | 250 ₾ |
| Sedan | 300 ₾ |
| SUV | 450 ₾ |
The price of “Detailing” depends on the car and is confirmed at the inspection. When interior cleaning is combined with polishing, it’s 20% cheaper: for a sedan, both together come to 940 ₾. You can calculate the price for your car in the calculator. Prices for other services are collected in the article how much car detailing costs in Tbilisi.
How long the interior takes to dry
From 4 to 24 hours. It depends on how dirty the interior was and how deeply the fabric was washed.
After handover, the interior still needs to dry out: keep the windows slightly open and don’t put anything wet on the seats. The other care rules are covered in the article on car care after detailing.
How often to have the interior cleaned
There’s no strict schedule: it depends on how the car is used. Go by the signs listed at the beginning of this article. Cleaning is needed more often if:
- children or a dog are regularly transported in the car;
- people smoke in the car or often eat in it;
- the car is parked on a dusty street every day with the windows open;
- the interior is light, so every stain shows.
If the interior is dark and you mostly drive alone, cleaning will be needed much less often. Regular cleaning between visits also extends the result: we explain how to care for the interior in the article on car care after detailing.
Can you clean the interior yourself?
You can freshen it up. With a vacuum, a plastic cleaner and microfiber, the inside will look noticeably cleaner in a couple of hours. But three things can’t be done at home:
- deep cleaning of the fabric. Without an extractor, the product and dirt stay inside the foam, and a damp smell appears later;
- cleaning the floor under the seats, if they aren’t removed;
- removing an old stain without leaving a ring.
For the last one, the studio offers a guarantee: a stain we can’t remove, nobody can, or we refund you. More about the packages is on the interior cleaning page.
